Yalda Night

Yalda (Persian: یلدا) , Yalda Night / Shab-e Yaldâ (Persian: شب یلدا), or Shab-e Chelleh (Persian: شب چلّه, meaning "night of forty") is the Persian Winter Solstice Celebration which has been popular since ancient times. Yalda is celebrated on the Northern Hemisphere's longest night of the year, that is, on the eve of the Winter Solstice. Depending on the shift of the calendar, Yalda is celebrated on or around December 20 or 21 each year.
Yalda has a history as long as the Mithraism religion. The Mithraists believed that this night is the night of the birth of Mithra, Persian angel of light and truth. At the morning of the longest night of the year the Mithra was born.
Following the fall of the Sassanid Empire and the subsequent rise of Islam in Persia/Iran, the religious significance of the event was lost, and like other Zoroastrian festivals, Yalda became a social occasion when family and close friends would get together. Nonetheless, the obligatory serving of fresh fruit during mid-winter is reminiscent of the ancient customs of invoking the divinities to request protection of the winter crop.
The 13th century Persian poet Sa'di wrote in his Bustan: "The true morning will not come, until the Yalda Night is gone".
Following the Persian calendar reform of 1925, which pegged some seasonal events to specific days of the calendar, Yalda came to be celebrated on the night before and including the first day of the tenth month (Dey). Subject to seasonal drift, this day may sometimes fall a day before or a day after the actual Winter Solstice.
Yalda Night has been officially added to Iran's List of National Treasures in a special ceremony in 2008.

ZIMA

22 Grudnia
PIERWSZY KALENDARZOWY DZIEŃ ZIMY...
Zima - jedna z czterech pór roku w przyrodzie, w strefie klimatu umiarkowanego. Charakteryzuje się najniższymi temperaturami powietrza w skali roku, zazwyczaj zestaloną (zamarzniętą) formą opadów atmosferycznych i osadu atmosferycznego. Podczas zimy większość świata roślin i zwierząt przechodzi okres uśpienia.
Witamy chłodno i z pewnym dystansem Panią Zimę i ku jej czci wiersze dwa i kilka obrazków szkockiej jej wersji zamieszczamy!

ZIMA
Józef Czechowicz

Pada śnieg, prószy śnieg,
wszędzie go nawiało.
Dachy białe już są.
Na ulicach biało.

Strojne w biel, w srebrny puch,
latarnie się wdzięczą.
Dziń-dziń-dziń-dziń-
dzwonki sanek brzęczą.

Pada śnieg, prószy śnieg
bielutki jak mleko.
W sklepach gwar, w sklepach ruch:
- Gwiazdka niedaleko!

Jeszcze dzień, jeszcze dwa,
chłopcy i dziewczynki!
Będą stać niby las
na rynku choinki

ZIMA
Maria Konopnicka

Nasza zima biała
Chustą się odziała.
Idzie, idzie do nas w gości
W srebrnych blaskach cała!
Włożyła na czoło
Księżycowe koło,
Lecą z płaszcza gwiazdy złote,
Gdy potrząśnie połą.
Z lodu berło trzyma,
Tchu ni głosu nie ma.
Idzie, idzie, smutna, cicha,
Ta królowa zima!
Idzie martwą nogą
Wyiskrzoną drogą,
Postanęły rzeki modre,
Do morza nie mogą.
Gdzie stąpi, gdzie stanie,
Słychać narzekanie:
- Oj, biedne my kwiaty, trawy,
Co się z nami stanie! -
Przed nią tuman leci,
Straszy małe dzieci...
A my dalej do komina:
- Nie puścim waszeci!

Gingerbread House / Domek z piernika

That's the way I made my gingerbread house two years ago:
Tak wyglądał mój domek z piernika w 2009 r.

And that's the way it disappeared! :)
A tak znikł:

Hope to have enough time to make one for this Christmas.
Mam nadzieję, że wystarczy mi czasu, by zrobić podobny na nadchodzące święta.

Polish St Andrew's Day / Andrzejki

St. Andrew’s Day is a deep-rooted Polish tradition. It gives us a perfect occasion to foresee our future. Our Andrzejki (pronounced an-dzhey-kee) party gave as a chance to introduce yet another bit of our culture to our friends. Below is a photorelation of what we've done to learn our future before in happens.

What will be your life like? Sweet, sour or maybe it will stay how it is now? To find out everyone had to put their finger in one of the three pots, one with juice, one with vinegar and one with water.

Both girls and boys were eager on checking out who will get married first. The idea is to queue left shoes (cause’ it’s closer to the heart) of those who are still single and the first shoe to reach the threshold tells the owner he’ll be the first to get married.

The first to leave the house was Olga’s trainer. Yas!

To find out the first letter of your future partner’s name, just pin the heart and check which letter you have hit.

And we were also pouring some wax through the key hole. Let the wax congeal and then holding the piece close to a candle, look at the casted shadow and use your imagination to read your future. Have fun!

And when we were all happy with our future, we started dancing!
Tańce-połamańce - czeka nas świetlana przyszłość! :)

Thank you everyone for attending! :)
Dziękujemy za przybycie!
