First Drownings

We are pleased to share with you two first Drownings of Marzanna 2016 reported to us so far. Both happened in Glasgow.

First one by Łukasz who drowned Marzanna whilst on his lunch break at work today. Such an innovative approach to the tradition!

And another one, by Marzanna and Stepan who met up in the usual drowning spot along Kelvin Walkway before their evening choir session.

You can send photographs and videos of your own Drowning Marzanna at cosmopolis10@gmail.com
HERE are all the details.

Drowning Marzanna 2016

Dear All,

It is time again to drown the goddess of winter Marzanna!
After 6 years of organising this event for large and diverse audiences, we hope this ancient Slavic tradition is now well established in Glasgow.
This time we'd like you to take matters into your own hands and to create your own effigies of Marzanna and drown them in small groups. We would like to encourage you to send us photos and videos of your drownings so we can share them on our blog www.cosmopolis10.blogspot.co.uk and through social media. Let's welcome spring to Scotland! Let's celebrate, wherever you are!

Here are some important tips:
* As far as we are aware, gatherings in parks larger than 20 people require permission from the City Council, which is far too late to organise, therefore we encourage you to stick to a small group of your family and friends.
* When you're making your Marzanna, please use ECOLOGICAL materials: straw, hay, paper, leaves, wood, vegetables, etc. Please do not use plastic, clothes or other materials that would pollute the river.
* It is worth making sure the photos / videos of your drowning are of decent quality. Please send them to cosmopolis10@gmail.com so we can share them with others. (the submission of pictures is tantamount to consent to their publication)
* Dead-line for sending your photos is April the 4th.

Time to say 'good bye' to winter in a good old-fashioned manner!
We wish you many creative ideas! Have fun!
